Nintendo plans to kill the Wii U by 2018

Last month, Japanese newspaper Nikkei wrote a story about how Nintendo was going to kill off the Wii U by the end of 2016. This was quickly squashed by the company when it said the report was inaccurate. However, with the imminent release of Nintendo’s upcoming system — the code named NX — it’s only a matter of time until the Wii U finally meets its end. According to a new report, we may now know when that will be.

According to Reuters and the BBC (via GameSpot), Nintendo CEO Tatsumi Kimishima said that the company plans to end production of the Wii U by March 2018. This wasn’t something that was announced as part of the officialfinancial earnings report we reported on earlier today, but was instead part of a Q&A session the CEO had with analysts and reporters.
