New parenting trend -‘no gifts allowed’ birthday parties

A new parenting trend sees parents increasingly hosting ‘no gifts allowed’ birthday parties for their kids.

Money-saving measures: In recent months, such invitations have become increasingly popular, as cash-strapped mothers look for ways to decrease costs, in any way, shape or form.

Expert: Psychologist, Dr Monique Robinson, said that it’s part of the overall trend towards minimalism – less presents means that the house is less overrun with ‘stuff’.

According to Dr Robinson, most parents ‘who choose the ‘no gifts allowed’ approach are coming from a really good place in terms of life lessons’. Read More

Legoland Threw Queen Elizabeth a Birthday Party Entirely Out of LEGO

The Windsor, U.K. location of the LEGO-themed amusement park threw Queen Elizabeth a miniature street party fit, appropriately enough, for a Queen, set up in front of the park’s perfect plastic recreation of Buckingham Palace, built using 35,000 LEGO bricks.

The party was made entirely of LEGO, and it took over 30,000 of them to create the festive street scene complete with a feast, British flags, bunting, and 600 attendees. They even included a mini version of the Royal Family, including Prince Charles, The Duchess of Cornwall, The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, Prince George, Princess Charlotte, Prince Harry and Princesses Anne, Beatrice and Eugenie, and, naturally, the Queen’s corgis. (Hard to tell if any of the LEGO critters are dorgis, the Queen’s beloved Corgi dachshund hybrid).

The party took Legoland’s model making team 650 hours to build. The Queen will celebrate her birthday on June 12, but the Lego birthday party will continue to be on display at Legoland Windsor until November.

Why people stop celebrating their birthday at the age of 31

People stop celebrating their birthday at the age of 31, a study has revealed.

We stop making an effort to celebrate as soon as we hit our thirties after years of marking the day with parties and nights out.

Worries about getting ‘too old’ and simply ‘not being bothered’ after the 30th leave many only celebrating the milestone birthdays of 40, 50, and 60.

Almost half admitted they had let a post 30 birthday pass them by completely because they barely acknowledged it, with one in five never having a birthday party again. Read more

10 Reasons Attending A Kid’s Birthday Party Might Not Be Fun

Below are the 10 reasons some parents can agree that attending a kid’s birthday party is the absolute not fun for them.

  1. You have no idea what to get the kid as a gift and it’ll probably be the same one every other kid gets for them.
  2. Everyone in the class is invited so you barely know the kid at all and have to fake it with the parents.
  3. If your kid is shy, they cling to you the whole time.
  4. If your kid is outgoing, they’re probably responsible for getting the other kids hyped up.
  5. All of the kids walk around with greasy pizza hands touching everyone and everything.
  6. If the party is some kind of activity, you end up spending the whole party helping your child instead of hiding in the corner.
  7. There’s always one parent who winds up all of the other kids until they are too crazy to control.
  8. You watch as the birthday kid spits all over their cake to blow out the candles — you really wanted a piece.
  9. Or the birthday child gets hysterical because some other kid blows out the candles (probably your kid).
  10. You’re only free from party hell after your child has consumed three adult-size slices of sugary frosted cake.

Do you know attending kid’s birthday with GamesOnTruck is fun and eliminates all these awkward reasons above?

Parents only drop their kids at the party location and later come back to pick them up, which give parents some time alone or attend to other things while kids are away having fun.

With GamesOnTruck, birthday parties are as easy as 1,2,3. There’s no easier way to give your child an unforgettable birthday party in Ottawa than hiring GamesOnTruck.

Grandma makes ‘Star Wars’ quilt for her grandson’s birthday

This grandma recently stitched together a Star Wars quilt for her grandson. Look at the craftsmanship that went into it. Have you ever seen such an adorable Darth Vader? No, Internet, you have not.

Redditor brosey recently posted the image to r/pics.

“Apparently it took her two hours to make each character square. Her grandson is lucky little guy! She brought it into work as another colleague is a massive Star Wars fan and she wanted to show him,” Brosey wrote.

When birthday parties become holy birthday months

The birthday party is in crisis — and it’s not getting better anytime soon.

As children, birthday parties were simple, elegant affairs. Your parents fed you supermarket cake on beautifully branded, plastic tablecloths and prayed that you didn’t ruin the whole event by spontaneously crying or vomiting.

But millennials took those simple pleasures for granted, and now, many parties have evolved into ravenous emotional beasts: month-long, highly intricate ceremonies that eat up all your your savings and Facebook notifications. Absence is not an option. Sickness is not an excuse. The rise of the birthdayzilla has transformed birthday parties from simple one-offs to totalitarian birthday months, and everyone must comply.
